We had began planning the wedding a year in advanced. We chose June third, because it was our three-year anniversary. It had rained the previous two June thirds and so we were decently confident that we could have a sunny garden wedding. We chose the Butterfly Garden at Norfolk Botanical Gardens in Norfolk, because it was right by a huge field of yellow wild flowers. We picked out the Waterside Deck at the Lesner Inn in Virginia Beach as our reception site. The deck was enclosed with windows along the outside and overlooked the Lynnhaven River. Each of the bridesmaids picked out their own dress with two rules--the dresses had to be chocolate brown and tea-length. The bridesmaids were able to chose a dress that suited them and also could be worn again for another occasion. They carried light pink and medium pink gerber daisies. The groomsmen wore traditional black tuxedos with chocolate brown vests to match the bridesmaids. Everything
was set up for the wedding and the weather was looking clear until the
morning before. Tropical Storm Barry was approaching the Tidewater
Area. We had to make a decision quickly after the rehearsal.
Would we risk it and have the ceremony at the garden or switch the
ceremony to the Lesner Inn? The forecast was not looking good, so
we contacted Lesner Inn and they said that they would take care of
everything. Although we were not able to meet with them to discuss
the new floor plan, they managed to set up the room with chairs and an
aisle. Everything worked out perfectly in the end. |
